Regina Davis paintings contemplate epic themes of eternal bliss versus the thorny injuries wrought by time and experience. They are profoundly symbolic narratives of human nature and a testament to our existence in the presence of a larger spiritual reality – what we choose to believe and see or not see.
"I was raised in Mexico City caught between the confinements of mystical, ancient ritual beliefs and strict Catholicism, a life that has made me keenly aware of the dual aspects of life and death, dark vs. light, and consciousness vs. unconsciousness.
I translate my thoughts and feelings into visual ideas that focus on the human figure in communion with symbolic elements. And, although my work is largely autobiographical, I continuously research and investigate to answer enigmas of the psyche and elements that confide in my own and the collective consciousness."
